Eastern Equatoria Health ministry launched vaccination campaign against polio virus in Ikwoto and Budi Counties bordering Kenya and Uganda.
Minister Margaret Itto said the vaccination will be extended to Magwi and Kapoeta East Counties before a mass state coverage in the next three months, Emmanuel Radio reported.
Dr Itto said the campaign followed report of a child infected with polio in Biira of Ikwoto County.
The minister noted that the open borders make South Sudan vulnerable to polio infections.
She explained that in July, the World Health organization announced polio outbreak in Somalia, Kenya and Uganda and they took preventive measures.
Dr Itto advised citizens to prevent polio infections because it paralyzes and kills children.
