The Minister of Interior and Wildlife Conservation on Tuesday urged police and wildlife forces to protect the environment and wild animals.

Aleu Ayeny Aleu said it was important to preserve wildlife for recreation and income.

He noted that wildlife can generate more income than oil if cared for properly.

Mr Aleu observed that many wild animals remain in exile as a result of the 21-year civil war in the country.

He warned that the animals will not return home from Kenya, Uganda and Congo if the armed forces continue to shoot them.

Mr Aleu made the statement during a joint donor meeting to explore ways of transforming the police on Tuesday in Juba.
