The minister of Finance, Commerce and Economic Planning challenged South Sudan to produce for exports to balance its trade with other countries.
Aggrey Tisa Sabuni told business community in the Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday that South Sudan was not selling to other countries but only buying from them.
He revealed that last year South Sudan bought goods worth 37 million US dollars and America did not buy even a flower from the country.
Mr Tisa said trade balances among America, Japan and South Sudan are against the nation and that such an economy cannot grow, but declines.
He said South Sudan must produce in order to sell to other countries to gain from trade exchange.
Mr Tisa warned against over reliance on oil resource and misuse of its revenue.
He revealed that South Sudan is suffering from a resource cursed situation because of neglecting agriculture forcing the country to depend on imported vegetables.
Chamber of Commerce Secretary-General Simon Akuei Deng said the country needs to produce local products.
He urged the government to exempt agricultural equipments to encourage production and harmonize policies.
Mr Deng said the country has the ability to export oil seeds, cereals and minerals.
The call came during a meeting on African Growth Opportunity Act between the Finance Minister and the private sector in Juba.
