Juvenile Justice gathered 15 police officers and eight social workers for training on early intervention to children in conflict with the law.

A social worker, David Salmon said the workshop was to enlighten police officers and social workers that children are to be treated different from adults, Bakhita Radio reported.

He said children do not understand the consequences of the actions they do.

Mr Salmon said they want to train the police and social workers on how to intervene when children commit crimes.

He  encouraged authorities to handle children who committed crimes with compassion.

Mr Salmon said at the end of the workshop they will deploy some social workers to police stations to deal with issues of children in conflict with the law.

Central Equatoria Gender, Child and Social Welfare  Director-General Eluzai Lajukole urged participants to commit to the training and put the knowledge into practice.

Juvenile Justice Program for the US State Bureau on International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs sponsored the workshop.
