Poaching and insecurity due to rampant firearms at civil population hands are major threats to wildlife in the country.

South Sudan Wildlife Service Director-General Major General Philip Chol Majak told Voice of Hope that high poaching affect wildlife in the protected areas.

He called for more efforts to collect illegal guns from the civil population and put them into stores because citizens kill many animals.

Major General Chol said the issue of wild animals eating tame animals was a general problem of the world not only South Sudan.

He advised people to keep their goats and cows away from wild animals.

Major General Chol cautioned that laws to protect wildlife were enacted and violators would be punished.

He urged all people to stop poaching and random shooting of guns to avoid scaring wildlife.

Major General Chol  said protecting wildlife was a collective responsibility.
