The head of the Episcopal Church of the Sudan called on citizens to repent and forgive one another to win God’s forgiveness.
Archbishop Daniel Deng Bull said National Day of Prayer for Healing, Peace and Reconciliation was a sign of unity among the people of South Sudan, Bakhita Radio reported.
He said the Bible teaches that Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel and called their elders, heads and judges together in the same way the tribes of South Sudan gathered to present their sins before God.
Archbishop Deng added that the history of the people of Israel was similar to the one of South Sudan for both went through cold blood.
The ECS Primate warned that the process of national prayer must not be politicized otherwise God may not forgive the people of South Sudan.
Central Equatoria State Deputy Governor Manasseh Lomole Waya said the people of South Sudan and their ancestors broke their relationships with God.
He said it was time for South Sudanese to come together as one family and confess to God for forgivingness.
Mr Lomole added that during the struggle many people sinned and turned to other gods forgetting their creator.
The National Day of Prayer for Healing, Peace and Reconciliation was celebrated under the theme ‘If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin and heal their land.’
