Citizens of all religious beliefs on Monday gathered at Torit Freedom Square to join the rest of South Sudan and mark the National Day of Prayer for reconciliation.
Christian and Muslim clerics in the three-hour prayers called for reconciliation among citizens and forgiveness of offences committed during the long civil war, Emmanuel Radio reported.
Torit Apostolic Administrator Thomas Oliha asked God to reconcile the people with Him and with each other.
Monsignor Oliha also prayed to God to forgive the sins of the people.
He requested God to take away revenge, hatred, division and bitterness of hearts and to grant love, respect and solidarity to the people of South Sudan.
Monsignor Oliha noted the need for a national truth and reconciliation Commission for the country.
He called for healing of South Sudan against tribalism, nepotism, corruption and all wrong things in the country and for the people to accept one another.
Episcopal Church of Sudan Bishop Ben Oringa redirected the occasion of the National Day of Prayer for Reconciliation to its true purpose.
