The Government did not put enough efforts to fight HIV AIDS as data for the country is unknown.

People Living with HIV AIDS chairperson Lole Laila blamed the Government for not fighting HIV AIDS seriously though different partners put much effort, Bakhita Radio reported.

He said the Government only shows commitment to organize the World AIDS Day but does not think of pushing up efforts to continue the fight against the killer virus.

Mr Laila pointed out that the Government did nothing tangible to fight the endemic in the last two years.

UN Deputy Special Representative to South Sudan Tobby Lanzer said the lack of reliable data on HIV prevalence is worrying because it puts the country at more risk.

He said an extra effort needs to be made to make sure the data is available.

Mr Lanzer called on the stakeholders to work together with the Government and make data available to the Health ministry.

National Health Minister Michael Milly Hussein said the little statistics that the ministry has can enable the Government to fight HIV AIDS.

Dr Milly called upon the stakeholders to speed the fight against the killer endemic.

AIDS commission chairperson Esterina Novello said the survey launched in March indicated that HIV prevalence stands at 2.6 percent.

South Sudan registers 16 thousand new infections every year.
