Eastern Equatoria government appealed to the UN demining group to re-demine the former garrisons of the Sudan Armed Forces in the state.

The state minister for Public Administration and Internal Affairs, Claudio Suleiman Liling, told Radio Emmanuel the re-demining aimed to remove suspected unexploded ordinances.

Mr Liling said the need to re-demine the former SAF garrisons follows two separate incidents of fatal blasts that killed four children in the state within three months.

He recalled that in February one child died on the spot and two others were deformed after a grenade they were playing with exploded in Kapoeta South County.

Mr Liling added that last week another blast left three children dead in Enyif area of Torit County.

He said many unexploded ordinances could still remain underground in areas occupied by the Sudanese army during the war.

Mr Liling lamented that the children fell victims of the ordinances after rain washed out the top soil and exposed the devices.

He advised that children should be guided against playing with any metallic object they did not know.

The minister also advised citizens to report any suspected cases of unexploded ordinances to government authorities.
