Lack of money and legal framework together with insecurity have affected the operations of the National Bureau of Statistics or NBS.
NBS Director of Economic Statistics David Chan Thiang said the Bureau does not have money for collecting data.He added that insecurity and poor infrastructure are major challenges hampering their work.
Mr Chan said absence of a comprehensive legal framework for governing data collection is another major problem affecting the Bureau.
He added that the line ministries do not have the capacity for collection, compilation and sharing of administrative data.
Mr Chan said the Bureau also lacks space to accommodate its entire staff.
He explained that policymakers do not use the right information and resources are not allocated based on population statistics.
He called on the national leaders to distributing resources according to the population of each state, county and payam in order to meet the expectations of the people.
Mr Chan was briefing the media on Tuesday during a two-day training on Reporting with Numbers.
The International Monetary Fund organized the workshop in collaboration with the Association of Media Development in South Sudan.
