South Sudanese in the diaspora have a role to play in order to build peace in the country by fostering trusting relationships over the ethnic divide.
The Coordinator South Sudanese Peace Initiative in Australia, Nyok Achouth Gor, told CRN that the diaspora should mobilize international support to bring peace to the country as they did during the referendum.Mr Achouth said the diaspora should be very critical about the support they give to people in the government and in their villages.
He added that if support is one-sided, it does not build trust among the communities.
Mr Achouth said South Sudanese abroad should start building relationships among themselves to bring peace to South Sudan.
He added that it was time to stop pointing fingers and blaming one another for the communal conflicts back home.
Mr Achouth underlined that South Sudanese from different communities have to learn how to listen to each other in order to create understanding instead of mistrust.
