The first official visit of Sudan’s President to South Sudan is disrupting traffic in Juba as the main streets used by the presidential motorcade were closed early in the morning to vehicles and some to pedestrians for security reasons.

A heavy military and police presence controlled traffic and pedastrians.

Omar al-Bashir is expected this morning in Juba in his one-day official visit to meet host Salva Kiir Mayardit and the Government of South Sudan.

President Bashir will be accompanied by a big delegation that comprises senior ministers and high ranking officials of his government, the President’s Office said in a statement.

His ministers and other officials will hold meetings with their counterparts of South Sudan.

President Bashir is also expected to pray at a mosque in Juba Town.

Government spokesperson Barnaba Marial Benjamin asked Juba residents to give a warm reception to President Bashir.

He told the press that the two presidents will mainly discuss all the main areas of the cooperation agreements signed between the two countries last September and the key issues within it.
