The Government of South Sudan should implement transparency measures in the oil sector following the resumption of crude production.

Global Witness campaigner Dana Wilkins said South Sudan’s oil law includes clear requirements for publication of oil sector data and contracts which enable citizens to monitor and verify the management of their resources.

She added that government should clarify recent reports of secretive contract allocations.

Ms√É≈†Wilkins√É≈†said resumption of oil operations will test whether the government’s commitment to transparency was genuine.
