JUBA, South Sudan — Monsignor Marco Ganci, the newly appointed Charge d’Affaires of the Holy See, arrived in Juba on Thursday, October 15, 2026.

Msgr. Ganci was appointed by the Holy See to serve at the Apostolic Nunciature in South Sudan until His Grace Patrick Seamus Horgan is able to resume his duties.

Msgr. Ganci’s appointment is expected to ensure continuity in the work of the Apostolic Nunciature in South Sudan during Archbishop Horgan’s absence.

Archbishop Horgan was reportedly unwell in July 2026 and travelled abroad to seek medical assistance.

Upon his arrival, Msgr. Marco Ganci was welcomed by His Lordship Santo Loku Pio, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Juba and General Overseer of the Catholic Bishops’ General Secretariat in Juba, and Fr. Romano Louis, who is the Deputy Secretary General of the Bishops’ Conference.
