Political Parties Council (PPC) announced key regulatory

The Political Parties Council (PPC) has announced key regulatory directives and deadlines governing political party participation in the upcoming 2026 General Elections, urging all aspiring political organizations to comply with registration and financial reporting requirements within set timelines.

In a series of official orders issued in Juba, the Council reaffirmed that while political party registration remains an ongoing administrative process, only those fully registered by June 30, 2026, will be eligible to participate in the 2026 General Elections.

The directive, issued under Order No. 01/2026, is grounded in provisions of the Political Parties Act 2012 (as amended in 2022) and the Political Parties Council Regulations 2015 (as amended in 2024).

The PPC emphasized that the deadline is final and binding for electoral participation, warning that any political entity failing to complete registration by the cut-off date will be disqualified from contesting in the elections.

“All aspiring political entities are directed to expedite the submission of their formal applications to ensure full compliance before the close of business on June 30, 2026,” the order stated.

The Council further outlined the required documentation for registration, including completed application forms, certified copies of party constitutions, lists of founding members with verified signatures, details of party office bearers across administrative levels, and proof of payment of prescribed fees.

In a separate directive, Order No. 02/2026, the PPC instructed all registered political parties to submit their audited books of accounts for the 2025/2026 financial year within the first week of July 2026.

The Council said it will subsequently publish an annual report based on the submitted audited accounts in the Official Gazette, in line with statutory requirements governing transparency and accountability of political parties.

The PPC noted that failure to comply with financial reporting obligations may attract regulatory consequences as stipulated in the law.

Both orders were signed by Hon. Eng. James Akol Zakayo, Chairperson of the Political Parties Council, and distributed to media outlets and official files.

The Council reiterated its commitment to ensuring a transparent, orderly, and legally compliant electoral process ahead of the 2026 General Elections in South Sudan.
