The Chairperson of the Chamber of Commerce in Magwi County has raised concern over multiple roadblocks along the Magwi–Torit–Juba Highway, blaming them for the rising cost of food commodities.

Mr. Ochan Walta Vito said traders are forced to pay fees at up to five checkpoints, significantly increasing transportation costs.

According to him, the price of essential goods has sharply increased, with a 50-kilogram bag of maize flour now costing 250,000 SSP. A 20-litre jerrycan of cooking oil is also priced at 250,000 SSP, while a kilogram of meat sells for 35,000 SSP.

Other basic items have also risen in price, including bread at 1,000 SSP per loaf and soap ranging between 6,000 and 7,000 SSP.
