Authorities in Western Bahr el Ghazal State have collected 130 different types of guns during a peaceful disarmament exercise conducted over the weekend in Wau.

Acting Police Commissioner James Simon Yasi said the disarmament aims at collecting illegal guns from the hands of civilians.

He explained that if civilians are armed, there is a high risk of insecurity and organized forces will not do their work effectively to prevent such incidents.

SSPDF Division Five Commander Dau Atourjong said the collective exercise was conducted through the presidential order to make peaceful disarmament in the Bahr el Ghazal Region.

He added that the organized forces conducted the process to make sure the situation was controlled because it is the mandate of the organized forces to protect the lives of our civilians and their properties.

Gen. Dau said other weapons including fangas, and knives were also collected during the disarmament.

Government’s representative Arkanjelo Anyar Anyar assures the organized forces that the state government will fully support the process with things they need to make their work succeed.

The disarmament team was speaking to the media at Division Five headquarters in Grinti area this week.
