AMDISS convenes Media Stakeholders Forum in Juba

 The Association for Media Development In South Sudan (AMDISS) has organised a two day Media Stakeholders Forum under the theme, “Building a conducive Environment for Independent Media and Safeguarding Civic Space in South Sudan. 

The forum started today and will end tomorrow on Wednesday. The forum draws members from security forces, media managers, civic society activists, journalists, judges and academia. 

Speaking during the opening of the occasion, The Chairperson of the Board of AMDISS, Koang Pal Chang said if civic space is not provided in the country, the anticipated elections may not be free, fair, credible. He also advised journalists to be professional in their journalism practice

The Press Secretary of the President, Lily Adhieu Martin said the government of South Sudan is committed to protecting the media freedom in the country. 

According to Adhieu, South Sudan is a unique country and she urged the partners to channel resources to develop and strengthen the media bodies to differentiate between hate speech and constructive criticism. 

The Deputy Minister of ICT Doctor Jacob Maiju Korok said a professional and vibrant media is the cornerstone of promoting democracy and good governance in the country.

The media stakeholders’ forum  brings together members of civic society, government and the media to deliberate on the issues affecting media landscape
