Torit Mayor Joseph Oswaha is appealing to the Food and Agriculture Organization or FAO to train butchers on hygiene maintenance and meat handling procedures so as to keep the meat market clean.

He is worried that when the butchers are not trained, the meat market will not be sustained clean and also they will not maintained clean working tools, Radio Emmanuel reported.

“All these that look good when not maintained next week time no one will stand there because that is blood and flies. For our great organization FAO, I am requesting you if there is possibility to allocate a budget for training of the butchers, these people need training, if you see these uniforms distributed to them, some of them in one week time it will turn yellow, they need to be trained on how to keep themselves clean and how they should work and how to keep their working tools clean”, the Mayor pleads.

Oswaha urges the traders to quickly respond when told to relocate because Torit needs to be developed.

“We need to develop Torit, these iron sheets are from 1953, look all over Torit how it looks; these are iron sheets from the British. I want next year all of these to be renovated and even build something tangible so that Torit will look nice and I am requesting anybody inside there if we ask you to leave please leave, we are not chasing you, go and let the place be built then you come”, he appeals.

The mayor was addressing the audience during the inauguration ceremony of the Meat Market in Torit Town on Tuesday.
