Not all commodities found in the markets of Wau town are expired, but many of them are damaged due to some conditions, acting director of National Bureau of Standards, Wau branch explains.

Francis Ibrahim says the office disposed a lot of damaged and expired commodities like rice, floor, biscuits, sugar and beans, Voice of Hope Radio reports.

He adds that the biscuits disposed were damaged because of bad storage system.

Ibrahim reveals that sometimes traders change sacks of commodities if expiry date is over and that they found 24 expired sacks of floor in Jou and Wau markets.

The acting director warns that any trader found with damage or expired goods in the shop will pay a fine according to the law.

He clarifies that sugar was disposed in water pools because disposing it in the river is very dangerous to the fish and any nearby water animals.

He urges citizens of Wau to be careful and always check the expiry date of the commodities, because damage or expired goods are harmful to human health.
