UNMISS welcomes release of Miraya journalist

The UN Mission in South Sudan, UNMISS has welcomed the release of its national staff member who has been in detention since 22 of August 2014.
 
UNMISS in a statement says George Livio was released without trial.
 
Security agents arrested Livio and UN security guard James Lual Tharjiath in Wau without any explanation, says James Deng, state’s Union of Journalists of South Sudan Secretary General.
 
The Mission calls for the release of its two other national staff members who are currently in detention without trial since 2014.
 
UNMISS continues to urge the South Sudanese authorities to respect national laws and the fundamental principles of due process under international human rights law.
