UNICEF withdrawal poses challenges for communities to continue keeping the water sources working, says Sanitation officer in Eastern Equatoria State.

Akurut Hellen urges partners to train some community members to repair and maintain water points, Radio Emmanuel reports.

The officer was speaking at a meeting organized by Rural Water and Sanitation Support Agency in Torit on Tuesday.

She appeals to partners to sensitize the community.

The government has limited resources to manage several water sources in the state, she observes.

The community needs to contribute for maintaining water pumps, notes Rural Water and Sanitation Support Agency Director, Joseph Kenyi.

The director calls for entrepreneurs to invest in water pump spare parts.

He agrees to prepare messages to sensitize the community.

Mr. Michael Woods, an official with NIRAS says several water pumps in Torit town are not functioning due to lack of spares.

The meeting was an inception of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Project for Torit County, Lafon and Imehejek Administrative Areas, in Eastern Equatoria State.
