United Nations’ report of 7.5 million South Sudanese at risk of hunger in South Sudan is not correct, government spokesperson argues.

Michael Makuei Lueth says the figure of 7.5 million people being at risk of starvation is not consistent with the population census of 2008.

The 2008 population census of the then Southern Sudan was 8.5 million.

But, the same Juba administration by then disputed the census results as politically doctored to undermine the right to self determination in a referendum.

Makuei says it is hardly true that only one million South Sudanese are safe from the threat of severe hunger.

Despite refuting the report, Makuei says the cabinet listened to some briefing on World Food Programme efforts to increase funds for averting food shortage in the country.
