Rights of persons with disabilities have been denied for decades, says member

The Association of Persons with Disabilities says its members have been subjected to several forms of stigma and discriminations for several decades.
 
A member, Augustino Longule says many years in silence, governments have been neglecting the people with disabilities in South Sudan, Radio Bakhita reports.
 
Longule hopes this time around, the government will listen to persons with disabilities and accord them due respect for their rights.
 
Longule asks the government and other stakeholders to include persons with disabilities in national planning for development.
 
Create a common platform conducive for comprehensive planning to cater for persons with disabilities, Longule urges.
 
Meanwhile, Social Welfare Minister, Awut Deng Acuil says collective practical responsibility from government, communities and private sectors can help improve living standards of persons with disabilities in the country.
 
South Sudan joins the globe on December 3rd in marking the International Day for Persons with Disabilities.
 
2008 Southern Sudan Census indicates that there are over 400 thousand people with disabilities all over the country.
