Western Bahr El Ghazal State Wau Municipality has arrested 22 traders at Jau Market for allegedly cheating customers with inaccurate sorghum measurement by tins locally known as malwa.
Municipal Executive Director for Block C Julio Emmanuel Mamma says the arrest follows several complaints from customers that the sorghum they buy is far less than usual, citing measurement malpractices, Radio Voice of Hope reported.
He explains that the suspects under arrest will be judged according to municipal legal procedures after the Islamic Holiday.
Customer Teresa Ricardo complains that the quantity she buys is no longer feeding her family as usual.
A suspect who is under arrest Jacob Deng defends himself and the company, saying he buys fake measurement of sacks of sorghum from suppliers and that to make profit he has to reduce the size of tins.
Voice of Hope could not obtain comments from suppliers or agents.
