Wau airport in Western Bahr El Ghazal State on Friday resumed normal flights after completion of the runway third layer pavement which started in June.

Flights at Wau airport were limited to only three days in a week but now it is expected to operate the whole week open to international flights, Radio Voice of Hope reported.

Wau Airport Director Daniel Nyial says they restricted flights to only 25 tons because the runway was not strong enough.

One of the citizens, Monica Ejurjong, who just returned from treatment abroad, commended government’s effort, calling urging airline companies to reduce fees.

Another citizen, Kwot Kuoc, said the improvement in the airport would pave ways for major investments in the whole Bahr El Ghazal region.

Wau airport now has 2.5-kilometre runway and two text ways, the airport third layer is consolidated with tarmac and divided with vertical white line running perpendicularly, giving it a capacity to allow cargo planes of 100 tons to land.
