International Committee of the Red Cross or ICRC Head of the sub delegation in Unity state reports that the situation in Leer, Unity State and parts of Koch and Mayendit counties continues to deteriorate, saying the population has largely exhausted its traditional coping mechanisms.
Daniel Littlejohn in a statement says volatile environment and humanitarian needs due to recent wave of violence in Unity and Upper Nile State.
He says thousands of people fled their homes in the last few months, seeking safety in the bush and swamps in remote areas with little or no food and even less access to health care.
The head of delegation warns that with the constant instability in the area opportunities to provide relief are very limited, adding that lack of security and harsh weather conditions further complicate access to vulnerable populations.
He says they ran a large relief operation out of their base in Leer, distributed food aid for more than 100 thousand persons regularly and provided surgical care to wounded people until May this year.
The head of delegation adds that they managed to provide food rations and seeds to over 53 thousand people in the area amidst insecurity.
