The Nuba Mountains’ Head of Trade Union says the rise of the prices of imported consumer goods was due to transport cost as many commodities came from Kenya, Uganda and South Sudan.

Abdurahim Rajab Arnu told Radio Voice of Peace on Monday that the locally produced goods were also very expensive because of late rainfall this year.

He says the fluctuation of imported goods was due to poor roads leading to Nuba Mountains.

Mr Rajab anticipates that prices would come down eventually after rainy season if many goods entered the region.

Nuba Mountains Trade Union Secretary-General Abass Anur Daud says they are planning an emergency meeting to negotiate reduction of prices, calling on fellow traders to sell goods at reasonable prices.

The heads of Trade Union attribute the high prices to rise of US Dollars in the world market thus affecting the local population.

They urged citizens not to sell food items to traders.
