Civil society Organization members on Thursday criticized National Legislative Assembly and Council of States Members of Parliament or MPs for contradicting public views by imposing their own interests.

Community Empowerment for Progress Organization or CEPO Project Officer Faida Jane tells CRN that MPs serve personal interests contrary to their electorates’ views.

Voice for Change Project Officer David Edema confirms that national legislators are not in touch with masses and even representative groups, appealing to the parliament to revise Financial Bill 2015 that imposes heavy taxes and affects every poor citizen.

CEPO official Taban Julius says the ideal belief of masses is that government organs do not operate in isolation of citizens in their service, calling for accurate representation to satisfy public opinion on matters of concern.

The civil society activists made the outcry on Thursday after a public hearing on Financial Bill 2015 that the National Legislative Assembly endorsed last Tuesday without public consultation.
