Western Bahr El-Ghazal State Council of Ministers in its regular sitting on Thursday resolved the adjournment of schools’ opening from February 2 to March 9, 2015 due to shortage of teachers and excessive heat.
State Government Spokesperson Mary Karnelio said the resolution directs all schools including private and government owned to resume classes on March 9, Voice of Hope reported.
She added that the postponement would grant opportunity for recruitment of enough teachers to address the shortage.
Critics observe that Western Bahr El Ghazal State is politicizing the education system and that the move could jeopardize learners’ performance.
