The United Nations Children’s agency or UNICEF warned that South Sudan is on the edge of nutrition catastrophe if the fighting continues.
UNICEF in a statement Radio Bakhita obtained on Wednesday said they are seeing large numbers of people moving in conflict-affected areas because of food shortages.
It reported that at least 229 thousand children are estimated to be suffering from severe acute malnutrition in the country.
It urged the warring parties to follow up fast on the ceasefire deal reached over the weekend or face potentially catastrophic food shortages in the conflict areas of the country.
The agency is urgently appealing for additional funding of 34 million US Dollars to continue to scale up its nutrition response in the country.
