Lakes Civil Society petitions IGAD over Vice President’s position

Civil society organizations and hundreds of youths, women groups, political parties in Lakes State on Tuesday took to streets of Rumbek calling on the Intergovernmental Authority on Development or IGAD not to use Vice President Wani Igga’s position as a ground to settle the conflict in the ongoing peace negotiations in Addis Abba, Ethiopia.
 
They marched to the gates of United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS with a petition chanting that ‘James Wani Igga’s position should never be sacrificed for sake of accommodating rebel leader Dr Riek Machar Teny’, Radio Good News reported.
 
Civil society representative warned that attempts to accommodate SPLM/A in opposition sets precedent for future rebellions as means to ascending to power in the country.
 
UNMISS State Coordinator Kwame Dwanena Aboagye thanked the demonstrators for peacefully expressing their views, promising to take the petition to the International Community.
 
Mr Dwanena advised the demonstrators to return to their houses peacefully after handing the petition to UNMISS.
