National Security personnel denied legal aid to UN journalist George Livio who was detained since August, 2014.

In a statement CRN obtained on Wednesday it said national security services denied access of the journalist’s lawyer to see him.

Community Empowerment for Progress Organization or CEPO expressed disturbance over the news that security denied Livio’s lawyer to see him because he is detained for political reason.

CEPO Executive Director Edmund Yakani said denying access to the lawyers’ client is a violation of the constitution, stressing that whatever crime or offense George Livio committed, he still deserves legal aid.

The Executive Director urged the national security to compromise with the detained UN journalist.

He called on the Human Rights Commission to intervene into this case, cautioning that the rights and freedoms of individuals and groups enshrined in the Bill shall be respected.
