Civil Society Alliance Chairperson allegedly dismissed on Wednesday said his life is under threat following a critical statement he made; referring President Salva Kiir to the fate of Libya’s fallen leader Muammar Gadafi or South Africa’s Nelson Mandela.
Deng Athuai Mawiir told CRN that some government allies are threatening to kill or jail him to silence him from talking and that he now puts his life in God’s hands.
He added that others are asking him to either join SPLM/A in Opposition leader Dr Riek Machar or tell exactly what he is all up to.
Mr Athuai explained that he was compelled to make the critical comparative statement by unrealistic conditional resolutions hindering peace process by the government’s consultative conference.
The activist insisted that he would continue assuming South Sudan Civil Society Alliance office as chairperson, arguing that those attempting to remove him are pure executive SPLM, not Alliance national council and general assembly members.
Mr Athuai observed that the government does not want people with divergent views, warning that the nation is tearing apart due to ill-motivated individuals with negative attitudes.
The activist said he only apologized to President Kiir on referring him to late Gadafi for the sake of harmonizing the atmosphere for peace.
