Eastern Equatoria is the second in South Sudan to Western Equatoria state with high figures of people living with HIV/AIDS.

Health minister Margaret Itto disclosed the high records on Monday during World AIDS day celebration at Freedom Square in Torit town, Radio Emmanuel reported.

She said there are 25 Voluntary Counselling and Testing Centres and four treatment ones in the state to help people living with the virus.

Assembly Health Committee Chairperson Mark Taban attributed high HIV AIDS prevalence in the state to alcohol consumption and commercial sex practices.

He advocated for abolition of immoral videos and regulation of drinking hours.

Torit County Executives Director Cypriano Oliong noted that alcohol consumption kills more people in the state than HIV AIDS.

He said over 50 civil servants in Torit County die every year due to alcohol consumption, asking for formation of Alcohol Commission to minimize excessive drinking and addiction.
