Twenty political parties on Monday warned the National Election Commission against risking escalating conflicts by organizing partial elections amidst hissing bullets of war.
United Democratic Party or UDP Deputy Chairman Steward Soroba told stakeholders that partial elections would only encourage antagonistic parties to interrupt the process.
He urged stakeholders to consider the bloodiest nature of the war, tearing social fabric of communities and forcing displacement of millions in relation to credible elections.
Mr Soroba observed that negotiated peaceful settlement of the ongoing war, followed by reconciliation and healing of communities and individuals should be a priority to create credible, democratic elections for all nationals to participate.
The UDP Deputy Chairman recalled that the 2010 general elections were full of arrests, intimidations and harassment; citing the arrest of 13 members of his party.
He lamented that it is unwise to force elections in unfavourable political atmosphere.
United Sudan African Party or USAP Chairman Joseph Ukel Abango insisted that without warring parties reaching peace agreement before July 9, 2015, there must be elections.
He argued that the pro-government political parties would be happy to see others withdrawing from election process to guarantee them all votes.
Elections Commission Chairperson Professor Abednego Akok told political parties that the nation is in a critical situation, calling for joint efforts to bring peace by consultative practices.
