About forty-two South Sudan Red Cross volunteers in Yambio, Western Equatoria State branch on Friday elected their leaders.
Rev Gabriel Anikpara Matthew won the chairmanship with 22 votes to be assisted by Josephine Bakhita, Anisa Radio reported.
The volunteers elected Simon Benjamin with 23 votes as the secretary and Paul Mario Wenengbii as his assistant.
The new chairman thanked the volunteers, urging them to unite and cooperate with him by creating new ideas based on the seven fundamental principles of Red Cross.
The Branch Director Alison Manguriko advised the volunteers to be creative in order to smoothly support activities of Red Cross in the state.
He encouraged each member to mobilise at least five new community members to join the group.
In a related development, Tombura-Yambio Catholic Diocese Justice and Peace Commission awarded certificates to Red Cross volunteers after psychosocial training.
