Authorities in Rumbek, Lakes State issued local orders banning all soldiers and organized forces from carrying guns in the town and residential areas while off duty.

Inspector of Police Colonel Isaac Mayuom Gop on Wednesday said the State Police Commissioner Costia Kedit Muortat ordered him to disarm forces loitering with weapons, Good News reported.

He warned that those forces lingering with guns would be arrested, disarmed and return to their respective units to keep order and prevent crimes in Rumbek Town.

Colonel Mayuom cited lack of transport for patrol forces in the State as a factor hindering their movement to run emergency cases around Rumbek Town.

He revealed that they are currently being assisted by Patrol forces that came from the National Interior Ministry.

The Police Inspector said security forces were doing their best to reduce insecurity in the state.
