More than 500 Raja boys and girls secondary school students on Monday stormed the County Education Headquarters over lack of teachers.
Eye witness said the students’ demonstration was peaceful at the beginning, chanting slogans of ‘No Country without Education’ as they marched from schools to the headquarters before rioting, Voice of Hope reported.
School Inspector Fotur Lambe Balbuk said the students destroyed school administration office block by breaking windows and tables.
He added that the students over powered police guarding the school administration block.
Mr Lambe admitted that government schools in the area were closed down for about three weeks due to lack of teachers.
The Inspector added that 11 teachers were dismissed by education Ministry due to lack of qualifications.
Raja girls’ Secondary School was left with only three teachers and only seven in Raja boys’ Secondary School.
The state education ministry is expected to hold a meeting on Wednesday to address the situation.
