Republican Frank Wolf, long recognized in US Congress as one of the strongest advocates for South Sudan, wrote a letter in August to former President George W. Bush, asking his Institute to help resolve crisis in South Sudan.
The Congressman said he knows President Bush tried to keep a low profile, but that South Sudan is unique and that he helped give birth to the nation and is probably the only person who can get the two warring parties together.
Mr Wolf urged the Obama Administration to solicit the help of President Bush, saying there is no downside.
The Republican Congress member’s letter dated August 8 said he was once again asking if former President Bush and the Bush Institute would engage to reconcile South Sudan.
Mr Wolf added that President Bush and his staff have the background and relationship with all the important players and stakeholders in the South Sudan regime.
He said without Bush intervention, the country may be nothing more than an asterisk in the history books and that a lot needs to be done to make South Sudan live up to its potential.
The Congressman concluded the letter with hope that his request and President Bush’s response would be like Esther in the Bible whose faith helped save her people.
