The United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS confirmed that three crew members of a UN-contracted MI-8 helicopter died in Tuesday’s afternoon’s crash near Bentiu in Unity State.
In a statement on Tuesday evening, UNMISS said one surviving injured crew member received treatment from MSF team in Bentiu.
The helicopter, which was on a routine cargo flight from Wau in Western Bahr El Ghazal State to Bentiu lost contact with UNMISS at 2:28 PM local time.
UNMISS officer-in-charge Toby Lanzer conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished a full and speedy recovery to the injured crew member.
He said the Mission is launching an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
