Bureau for Community Security and Small Arms Control of the Interior Ministry in collaboration with United Nations Development Programme or UNDP conducted a two-day workshop to update civil society organizations and members of National Legislative Assembly about the status of Small Arms Control Bill of 2012 and the policy framework.
Small Arms Control Director Christo Simon Fataki said the workshop was to lobby support for the enactment of the Bill and adoption of the policy.
Mr Simon said the Bill would control the small arms and light weapons because most of the laws were not responsive to the challenges caused by small weapons.
The Director added that they need to have one comprehensive Bill to address issues related to small arms and light weapon.
He disclosed that the small arms sustained the conflict, inflicted injuries to people and hinders basic services to the people.
Mr Simon said the arms affect traders as they fear of their safety.
