Legislature passes National Budget to third reading

The National Legislature comprising of Legislative Assembly and Council of States on Tuesday passed the 2014/ 2015 National Budget to the third reading with observations and recommendations of the Augus House.
 
Speaker Manasseh Magok Rundial ruled after presentations and deliberations that the National Budget 2014/2015 and Finance Appropriation Bill 2014/2015 be passed to the third reading.
 
Amidst applause he said that the next session on the budget be held on Monday.
 
National Legislative Assembly Minority Leader Onyoti Adigo Nyikwec recommended establishment of an independent revenue authority to secure taxes for service delivery to citizens.
 
He suggested that government should improve on monetary policy to control inflation and that it should exclude unnecessary exemptions that rob the national treasury of revenues.
 
MP Adigo recommended that the government should construct tarmac roads instead of Murram ones that waste money.
 
Government Chief Whip Tulio Odongi Ayahu reminded the parliament that the budget planning at the moment is extraordinary austerity budget given the decline in oil revenue in the country due to conflict.
 
He added that it is difficult time for South Sudan compared to flourishing days of 2007 to 2010, citing disruption of oil refinery in the Upper Nile region.
 
Legislators argued that though much budget could be allocated for peace and security, a lot still remains desired in basic services.
