The President of the Republic on Saturday dissapointed women after failing to meet over 100 of them who gathered at Dr John Garang Mausoleum to deliver a petition letter for peace in South Sudan.
The petitioners expressed disappointment, labelling him ‘a stubborn child who does not listen to mothers’ call’ when National Legislative Assembly Speaker Manasseh Magok Rundial dispersed them to go home, arguing that President Salva Kiir Mayardit did not receive any invitation.
Eve Women Development Organization Director Rita Martin who was coordinating the women program to petition President Kiir told journalists that they sent invitation letters to the offices of the President, Vice President and the Speaker of national parliament.
She commended Speaker Magok for honouring the invitation and accepting to take the women message about being ‘tired of war’ and expecting the government delegation to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to return with peace package.
The women petitioners displayed placards with several wordings including ‘ No more amnesty’, ‘Need justice’, ‘All South Sudanese, let us forgive’, ‘Love our country’ and ‘Live in peace and harmony’.
