National Athletic Federation convenes first general assembly in Juba

South Sudan Athletic Federation on Wednesday convened its first general assembly with the aim of joining East Africa Athletic Federation.
 
The Federation Secretary General Kamal John said it took South Sudan three years before sharing ideas with their East African members, Bakhita Radio reported.
 
He said the Federation was formed based on Youth, Culture and Sports ministerial order to form steering committee and that the assembly was to pave way for joining East Africa Athletic Federation.
 
National ministry of Youths, Culture and Sport Undersecretary John Baptist revealed a plan for the Federation to join the international Olympic Committee and participate in all African games.
 
He urged South Sudan Athletics Federation members to deliberate and come up with realistic and sustainable strategic plan.
 
East Africa Athletic Federation President Bisrat Gashawtena expressed readiness to build on South Sudan federation members’ capacity by upgrading their institutional management.
 
She called on the local Federation to learn from other athletics federations to strongly develop.
 
East Africa Athletic Federation Secretary General Siddiq Ibrahim assured its South Sudan counterpart of their support to help it compete at the international level.
 
Western Bar El Ghazal and Central Equatoria State ministers chaired the first South Sudan Athletic Federation general assembly.
