Tonj South County Commissioner in Warrap State on Monday announced closing illegal checkpoints.
William Wol Mayom said county authorities discovered that checkpoints which intended to curb insecurity are used for collecting taxes, Don Bosco Radio reported.
He said they constituted a committee to crack down checkpoints introduced during mid December crisis for security purposes, but being used for taxing people.
The Commissioner added that traffic police are only to make taxation from traders’ drivers’ vehicles.
Mr Mayom advised citizens to maintain cleanness around their town, homes and neighbourhood to prevent cholera and other diseases, saying traders should not keep empty bottles, cartons, plastic bags and other rubbish in front of their shops.
