Western Equatoria Education Director General on Thursday punished head teachers in Li-Rangu Payam of Yambio County for failing to teach the national anthem in their primary schools.

Gibson Francis Waru declared that all the six head teachers will lose half of their one month salaries because their pupils failed to sing the national anthem in front of the state Education Minister during the International Girls’ Education Day, Anisa Radio reported.

The Director-General warned teachers against drinking alcohol during working hours, advising them to change their habits.

Mr Waru stressed that the President of the Republic issued an order last year asking all schools to sing the national anthem at least once a week.

He added that the state ministry forwarded the circular to all county education directors for implementation.

The Director General encouraged all men and women to go for Alternative Learning Program in the evening, calling on parents to send all children to school, support them with requirements and assist teachers.
