South Sudan Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture on Tuesday formed a policy advocacy committee headed by Professor Otsudi Patrick to address several economic challenges including taxation system and rates.

Chamber of Commerce Secretary-General Simon Akuei Deng told CRN that the policy advocacy would also address farming policy, private sector development, women and youth business enterprises.

He explained that addressing economic challenges in South Sudan requires government and private sector to partner to formulate policies to reduce youth unemployment.

Mr Akuei condemned clearing agents’ blockage strike at Nimule border, saying it affects market prices, causing artificial shortage of commodities.

He advocated for non-violence in addressing grievances and that the blockage of goods from entering Juba makes everyone to suffer.

Professor Otsudi Patrick said his first priority would be sensitization of stakeholders on the significance of policy advocacy committee to link the private sector to the public domain for mutual benefits.

Professor Patrick said his new assignment is challenging as it requires liaison with the government to protect business fraternity.
