United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS Protection Advisor on Thursday told reporters that they found no substantial evidence on the news story of 20 dead headless bodies noticed at Juba Teaching Hospital.
Jeffrey Buenger said UNMISS took the story of headless bodies suspected to Internally Displaced Persons or IDPs’ returnees seriously, but found it unreal.
He suspected that it was a fabrication to steer up fears of IDPs intending to return home, adding that the Mission was glad to find no truth in the story.
In another news development, UNMISS Peace Building Team Head Derk Segaar told reporters at the same conference that they allow free movement of IDPs in and out of their compounds to make them assess security situation outside for themselves.
He added that they want IDPs to return home voluntarily as quickly as possible depending on their personal safety.
Mr Segaar said everyday IDPs move in and out freely in thousands to access market and work, arguing that others only fear home insecurity at night.
The officials made the statements during a press briefing on UN Security Council resolution 2155 adopted on May 27 focusing on protection of civilians in South Sudan.
