The United States or US on Friday delivered 30 tonnes of food aid equivalent to 97 million US Dollars for South Sudan conflict victims at risk of starvation and malnutrition.
US Ambassador to South Sudan, Susan Page told journalists at Juba International Airport that part of the relief aid would be destined to internally displaced persons in Jonglei State to reduce the severe malnutrition.
She explained that the aid contribution was a fulfilment of humanitarian assistance pledged in Oslo, Norway to show compassion and generosity of Americans to South Sudanese at the critical time of need.
Ms Page renewed US call to the warring parties to ensure safe environment for humanitarian workers to deliver aid to the needy by air, road and water.
The diplomat urged the government and SPLM/A in opposition to clear all sort of hindrances to humanitarian efforts.
The Ambassador commended the World Food Programme and other implementing partners for airlifting and delivering the aid to South Sudan, expressing hope that it would be directed to the right people.
